Prolonged heavy rain this weekend. Where: North Columbia, Kinbasket, West Columbia, and Trans-Canada Highway - Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass. When: Beginning Friday afternoon and continuing through the weekend. What: Heavy rain with storm totals of 50 to 80 mm of rain. Wet snow is possible for Friday afternoon and early evening near Rogers Pass. Hazards: -Water pooling on roads. -Swollen rivers and creeks. -Increased risk of washouts, rockfall, and landslides on very saturated surfaces. Remarks: An atmospheric river is taking aim at southern BC and will bring a period of heavy and prolonged rain to the Columbia region beginning Friday afternoon and continuing through the weekend. The Trans-Canada Highway near Rogers Pass may see wet snow Friday afternoon and early evening before it quickly changes to rain as the weather system brings in mild air. Rainfall totals are expected to reach 50 to 80 mm by Monday morning. Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.
