Wind Warning in effect for:
  • Sunshine Coast - Saltery Bay to Powell River

Another wind storm today and tonight, less intense than the last one. When: Tonight. Where: East Vancouver Island - Campbell River to Nanoose Bay, Sunshine Coast - Saltery Bay to Powell River Winds southeast 70 gusting to 90 km/h. Remarks: Another fall storm is forecast to impact the south coast today. An area of low pressure off the Washington coast is forecast to move northwards and approach Vancouver Island this afternoon. Southeasterly winds will increase through the day today, with peak wind speeds expected tonight. Strong winds will ease somewhat overnight and on Saturday. While this low is not as intense as the major storm that affected the area on Tuesday and Wednesday, and peak wind speeds are forecast to be generally lower, the strong winds may still cause damage and disruptions, and slow down clean up efforts. Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage. High winds may result in power outages and fallen tree branches. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.
